Description

The Senior Protection Officer plans, implements, and monitors the UNHCR project under the Protection Manager’s supervision.
He’ll help the Protection Manager manage and supervise workers. S/he provides technical leadership, supervises, trains, and mentors people, and coordinates project operations to ensure project success.
The Senior Protection Officer will create IRC Protection programmes and proposals.
She will create and manage partnerships with local partners, humanitarian actors, state authorities, beneficiaries, and local/traditional leaders to fulfil IRC Protection programme and IRC vision 2020 goals.
Project Planning and Execution:

Responsible for planning and executing Borno project activities according to IRC guidelines.
Improve data collection, reporting, accountability, and field impact of IRC presence to monitor project quality.
Make sure the Protection sector and other IRC sectorial initiatives in Borno work together in close collaboration with other Protection professionals.
Work with the Protection Manager and Coordinator to generate new project narratives and budgets.
Support effective monitoring, evaluation, and learning procedures and project data and information management.
Consult with Protection personnel to create monthly work plans centred on key outputs and outcomes.
Staff participation in project monitoring and assessment ensures project quality, relevance, and accountability to IRC’s target populations.
As appropriate, incorporate community approaches, gender sensitivity, capacity building, and mainstream protection into all efforts.
Reporting and Documentation:

Maintain current IRC data on the impacted and targeted community and coordinate beneficiary lists and numbers with Reporting/Database Assistant and stakeholders.
Deliver weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual project reports on time and well.
Ensure high-quality IRC and donor activity, indicator, and achievement reports.
Age and gender-disaggregate all reporting.
Record all project activity.
Team Management:

Maintain a respectful workplace where team members strive for excellence.
As needed, assist the Protection Manager in hiring and orienting new workers.
Help IRC Protection sector team-building, problem-solving, and the Protection Manager integrate all team members into relevant decision-making processes.
Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in law, political science, psychology, social sciences, or social work is required.
Protection programming experience, including monitoring and responding to protection requirements.
Experience using international human rights criteria in protection programming.
Project Cycle Management Knowledge
Experience in HR management of national workforce and working in IDP camps and host communities.
Coordination of humanitarian protection experience required. Skills in advocacy needed
Manage teams, especially field teams in difficult environments.
Ability and willingness to live and work in difficult conditions
Good written and verbal communication, cultural awareness, adaptability, improvisation, team player.
Ability to work and survive under stress in uncertain and tough situations while remaining humourous
Strong computer abilities (Word, Excel).
